From Zoo Day to You Day: Evolving to Meet Your Needs
For over a decade, the DMRF community gathered for “Dystonia Zoo Days”, in-person events that brought individuals and families together to connect, have fun, and raise awareness for dystonia. In 2020, as the world shifted, so did we. Our events went virtual, and “Virtual Zoo Day” was born, allowing people from across the country to come together and stay connected.
By 2024, it was clear that our community needed more than connection, they needed tools, support, and space for self-care. The overwhelmingly positive response to a wellness-focused event inspired us to take the next step.
We’re proud to introduce Virtual You Day—a new kind of event designed to help you take back your power through self-care. It’s about focusing on what you can control, creating space to care for yourself every day, and finding strength in community. Living with dystonia can be overwhelming—but knowledge, support, and intentional self-care can help restore a sense of control and resilience.
The DMRF is proud to be the definitive source of the most up-to-date information to help you live your best life. With expert-led sessions, mental health check-ins, self-care resources, and open Q&A discussions, this day is all about empowering and uplifting those impacted by dystonia. Join us virtually on Tuesday, September 30th, this day is for you!
We Want to Hear from You!
As we prepare for Virtual You Day, we want to spotlight the voices that matter most which are yours! What does self-care look like for you?
Share your favorite self-care tips, routines, or words of encouragement with us at events@dystonia-foundation.org. Your ideas may be featured during the event to help inspire and uplift others in the community. Big or small, your self-care matters—and your story could make a difference for someone else.
